When Do You Need Your Hair Trimmed?
How frequently do you book appointments for hairdressing in East Grinstead? Having your hair cut at regular intervals can help your locks stay healthy, but it can be hard to know when it’s ready for a trim. In this short article, we look at why and how often you should visit your hairdresser!
Regular Trims Prevent Split Ends
No matter how careful you are when washing, brushing and styling your hair, everyone is liable to suffer from split ends from time to time. Frequent washing, tying hair back, using too much of the wrong product, rubbing hair with a towel when wet and blow drying routinely can all increase the chances of splitting ends. And growing your hair out will inevitably increase the age of the lower strands, which can lead to fragility and split ends.
Regular trims will remove these split ends which, if left alone, can continue to unravel up the length of the hair shaft. This can be a problem that’s particularly noticeable if you have very fine or thin hair, so head to your hairdressers at least every five weeks or so.
Maintaining Your Style
If you have a short hairstyle which you love and are aiming to keep for a while, then it’s well worth coming for a cut every four to six weeks. While hair grows at roughly the same rate whatever its length, any growth is far more noticeable with short styles, so if you leave it longer, your perfect style might lose its shape and look untidy. Frequent visits to the hairdresser means you keep it looking as good as the day you first left the salon with your new style.
Changing Your Style
If you’ve had short hair but are aiming for a new look, it can be tempting to forego regular cuts so you don’t lose any of the length. But as noted above, the longer your hair grows, the more fragile it will be. To make sure your hair is in its best and strongest state to cope with a new style, have your hair trimmed around the six week mark, and six weekly after that too. That will help maintain the length and strength while also making sure any damage from split ends doesn’t spread.
Medium to Long Hair
Every six to eight weeks will do for trims if you have medium hair and are aiming to grow it longer. This removes damage while also maintaining as much of the length as possible and keeping your style too. If you’re reluctant to set back progress, you can push it to ten weeks or so, but remember that more frequent cuts can pay off by preventing over-drying and breakages.
Had Your Hair Coloured?
Hair colouring in East Grinstead, as elsewhere, involves the use of chemicals. These can make hair strands more fragile and therefore more prone to damage. As well as looking after it at home by using the right products for washing, conditioning and so on, it pays to have it trimmed every three to four weeks
